We had such a fantastic weekend visiting Dave's cousins in Ocean City, MD. We arrived on Thursday afternoon. After hitting the beach, we all took the boys to the boardwalk where we ate pizza and funnel cakes! JR is a big fan of funnel cakes, like his dad. :) Nick rode every ride he could. He even did a roller coaster that went upside down! And he's only 8! Brave boy! I wouldn't have touched an upside down ride at his age.
Pure joy on the bumper cars.
More family arrived on Friday, which was a beautiful windy beach day and an all-nighter for some who will remain nameless. :) At 4am, the men folk left for a day of deep sea fishing.
Somewhere near the beginning of the late night.
Dave and cousin Eddie after the fishing trip. Dave reeled in this dolphinfish!
A victim of the aforementioned activities and an Oceanside sub sandwich. See evidence at bottom center.
The sea and sand did us in on Saturday. I fell victim to an overzealous wave, and Tony got a scrape from the seashells while boogie boarding. But we're all fine. JR was not injured. :) On Saturday night, we ventured up to Fenwick Island for a BBQ dinner with the parents/aunts/uncles. It was an early night.
Sunday was our perfect day. Cousins Mel and John took us down to Assateaugue Island on their boat. There are herds of wild horses on Assateague, which were reportedly stranded on the island after the crash of a sea vessel carrying horses in the 1800's. But Mel said that they have only seen the horses once from a distance, so we shouldn't get our hopes up. We anchored the boat in the channel and swam into the shore. About 5 minutes later, we saw a herd of wild horses in the distance! Dave and Carol swam back to the boat to retrieve the camera. By the time they got back, the horses had run all the way up the beach to where we were.
Gorgeous manes and tails!
JR and I wait for the horses to approach. They had already passed us once and turned around to come back when they approached the throng of people in the background. During the initial pass, one of them came up and nudged me! He must have been saying hello to JR.
Hard to believe how close they got!!
Carol, the horse whisperer.
The women and children.
Assateague is teeming with creatures. Seen here is Hermie the hermit crab.
Tony peeps out from down below.
The grin is evidence of some mischief, past or planned.
My handsome husband enjoys the ride back to Ocean City.
Some of the crew at Seacrets, where we stopped for lunch. Cousin John looks great in my beach hat.

The number of fries that Tony has in his mouth. :)
Nick is driving the boat! He's a great captain.
The end to a perfect day! But the day keeps going....
And now for the rest of the story. So we pack up to go home, all glowing from our adventures and suntans, when a big storm starts to blow in......80 mile an hour winds, and the darkest clouds ever seen by man. We decide to caravan back to Fenwick Island to pick up some stuff we had left and then head out together. On the way, a surf board comes loose from the car in front of Laurie and shatters (and I mean SHATTERS) the windshield of their brand new SUV! Ugh! Thanks to the grace of God, no one is hurt, which you would know to be a miracle if you had seen the windshield and the glass covering the inside of the SUV. So we tarp up the glassy car in the pouring rain and call the police and insurance company. Laurie and the boys stayed behind today to take care of the insurance issues. Hopefully, they will at least get some extra beach time in while they're there!
We pulled in to the house at midnight, and Kitty and Frank were quite happy to see us. The End.
